Generalizing Core-Guided Max-SAT

چکیده
Recent work has shown the value of using unsatisfiable cores to guide maximum satisfiability algorithms (Max-SAT) running on industrial instances [5,9,10,11]. We take this concept and generalize it, applying it to the problem of finding minimal correction sets (MCSes), which themselves are generalizations of Max-SAT solutions. With the technique’s success in Max-SAT for industrial instances, our development of a generalized approach is motivated by the industrial applications of MCSes in circuit debugging [12] and as a precursor to computing minimal unsatisfiable subsets (MUSes) in a hardware verification system [1]. Though the application of the technique to finding MCSes is straightforward, its correctness and completeness are not, and we prove both for our algorithm. Our empirical results show that our modified MCS algorithm performs better, often by orders of magnitude, than the existing algorithm, even in cases where the use of cores has a negative impact on the performance of Max-SAT algorithms.

Backbone Guided Local Search for Maximum Satisfiability
Maximum satisfiability (Max-SAT) is more general and more difficult to solve than satisfiability (SAT). In this paper, we first investigate the effectiveness of Walksat, one of the best local search algorithms designed for SAT, on Max-SAT. We show that Walksat is also effective on Max-SAT, while its effectiveness degrades as the problem is more constrained. We then develop a novel method that e...
متن کاملBackbone Guided Local Search for the Weighted Maximum Satisfiability Problem
The Satisfiability problem (SAT) is a famous NP-Complete problem, which consists of an assignment of Boolean variables (true or false) and some clauses formed of these variables. A clause is a disjunction of some Boolean literals and can be true if and only if any of them is true. A SAT instance is satisfied if and only if all the clauses are simultaneously true. As a generalization of SAT, the...

In this paper, we study the behaviour of the Scaling and Probabilistic Smoothing (SAPS) dynamic local search algorithm on the unweighted MAXSAT problem. MAX-SAT is a conceptually simple combinatorial problem of substantial theoretical and practical interest; many application-relevant problems, including scheduling problems or most probable explanation finding in Bayes nets, can be encoded and s...

متن کاملImpact of SAT-Based Preprocessing on Core-Guided MaxSAT Solving
We present a formal analysis of the impact of Boolean satisfiability (SAT) based preprocessing techniques on core-guided solvers for the constraint optimization paradigm of maximum satisfiability (MaxSAT). We analyze the behavior of two solver abstractions of the core-guided approaches. We show that SAT-based preprocessing has no effect on the best-case number of iterations required by the solv...
